UKT joins forces with Adriatic partners to strengthen climate resilience through the AQUA Project

Tirana Water and Sewerage Utility (UKT) is a proud partner in the international AQUA Project – Enhancing Water Management for Climate Change Resilience in the Adriatic-Ionian area  co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme.
The project brings together utilities and public institutions from seven Adriatic and Ionian countries to jointly tackle the increasing challenges of water scarcity, flooding, and climate-related risks. Its overarching goal is to improve water resource management and urban climate resilience by developing localized Digital Twins advanced digital frameworks that allow real-time monitoring, scenario modelling, and decision support for water systems.
UKT is responsible for piloting the implementation of a Digital Twin in the Tirana area, with a focus on:
  • Identifying and evaluating existing tools for hydrological monitoring and modelling;
  • Supporting the development of a dedicated local Action Plan;
  • Contributing to the design and testing of innovative data-driven solutions for climate risk adaptation in urban settings.
Through this initiative, UKT aims to enhance its technical and operational capacities in managing water resources sustainably and in alignment with EU environmental and climate standards.
The total EU contribution to the AQUA project is approximately €1.4 million, with UKT receiving €93,500 in project funding, of which 85% is co-financed by the IPA programme and 15% by national contribution.
